Brazil fell 2-1 despite playing over 35 minutes against a 10-man side after Dayot Upamecano’s second-half red card.

The performance raised fresh concerns, particularly with Vinicius Jr. and Raphinha struggling to influence the game.

That context quickly brought Neymar’s absence back into focus ahead of a crucial squad decision.

Casemiro insists Neymar’s quality is ‘irrecusable’

Casemiro did not hesitate when asked about Neymar missing from the latest call-up before the World Cup squad announcement on 18 May.

After the match, the Manchester United midfielder addressed the controversy: “Regarding Neymar, I’ve already said: I’m a fan of Neymar. In my generation, he’s in the top 3: Cristiano [Ronaldo], [Lionel] Messi and Neymar. He’s a great friend.

“It’s not up to me to decide whether to bring Neymar or not, but we know, if Neymar is physically and mentally fit, he’s the best in the world. So, it’s up to the coach, the staff, Neymar, and Santos to decide if he’s fit or not, but we know that Neymar’s quality is irrecusable for any national team, especially when he’s fit.”

His comments underline the respect Neymar still commands within the squad.

They also add weight to the growing calls for his return.

Pressure builds on Carlos Ancelotti ahead of squad decision

The defeat to France intensified pressure on Carlo Ancelotti as he prepares to finalise his World Cup squad.

During the match, the crowd was heard chanting Neymar’s name.

Former players have also joined the discussion around his inclusion.

Rio Ferdinand recently urged Ancelotti to bring Neymar back into the fold, and Brazil legend Romario – a former Ballon d’Or winner – has echoed similar sentiments in recent weeks.

With the deadline approaching, the debate is becoming harder to ignore.

Casemiro’s remarks have now added further fuel to an already heated discussion.
