Dolphins make first offensive line signing in free agency adding versatile blocker

After a flurry of moves at other positions on the first four days of free agency, the Miami Dolphins have bolstered their offensive line before the first week concluded.

The Dolphins signed former Los Angeles Chargers versatile offensive lineman Jamaree Salyer, the team announced Friday morning.

Salyer was a sixth-round pick out of Georgia for the Chargers in 2022 and has started 40 games for them over the past four seasons — 19 at left tackle and 21 at right guard. He has also filled in sparingly as needed at right tackle but played all across the line in college.

Last year, Salyer was the second-best pass-blocking offensive lineman on a Chargers line that struggled to protect quarterback Justin Herbert, as graded by Pro Football Focus. He was only behind Joe Alt.

The Dolphins pick up one of the Chargers’ blockers after Los Angeles, who has former Dolphins coach Mike McDaniel as offensive coordinator, reached a deal with Miami’s starting right guard for most of last season, Cole Strange.

The right guard position is open, possibly for Salyer to compete to start there, after Strange fled in free agency and the Dolphins cut James Daniels, who was bound to be the starter last season but hurt a pectoral muscle three plays into the season opener and never returned.

Miami has left tackle Patrick Paul and center Aaron Brewer as strong starters at their positions, while the Dolphins agreed to restructure right tackle Austin Jackson’s contract to bring him back for 2026.

The Dolphins will also work to develop Jonah Savaiinaea, who struggled at left guard as a rookie second-round pick whom Miami’s previous general manager, Chris Grier, traded up to draft.
