USCHO.com released their latest batch of college hockey bracketology, and it has the Spartans landing as the No. 1 seed in the Loveland Region. Michigan State is projected to play Bentley in the first round, who is the lowest ranked team currently slated to make the field. The other matchup in the Spartans' region is No. 2 seed Cornell vs. No. 3 seed Denver -- which would pit a team who knocked out the Spartans in last year's tournament against a team that would have a relative home ice advantage.
Michigan State recently took over as the No. 1 team in the NPI rankings -- which are used to seed and field the 16 teams that'll make the NCAA Tournament. In gaining the overall No. 1 seed, Michigan State would be in line for a notably easier matchup than if they were lower in the seeding lines.
Michigan State sits at 22-6-0 overall and 13-5-0 in Big Ten play with six regular season games remaining. The Spartans are off this weekend and will return to action next week against Notre Dame.
