Two OT penalties prove costly as Bruins fall to Flyers

The Bruins earned a point but fell to the Philadelphia Flyers, 2-1, in overtime Sunday night at Xfinity Mobile Arena.

Rookie Porter Martone scored his first NHL game in overtime to lift the Flyers to victory.

Boston now has 95 points. Despite the loss, the Bruins’ playoff chances got a slight bump to 97.3%.

The Flyers struck first when Martone made a great pass that led to a two-on-one with ChristianDvorak and Travis Konecny. Dvorak ripped the puck past Joonas Korpisalo for the 1-0 lead.

After a second period that saw the Bruins go scoreless on the power play, Pavel Zacha made sure. that wasn’t the case to start the third.

The Bruins forward tied things on 1-1 on the man-advantage 35 seconds into the final 20 minutes of play. The goal marked the 11th on the power play for Zacha this season for second-most on the team this season. Morgan Geekie leads the Bruins with 12.

Korpisalo made some big saves in the third, including on Martone and a big pad save on a Tyson Foerster second chance at the doorstep.

It was enough to push the game to overtime after neither team scored after Zacha’s goal.

The Flyers went on the power play with 2:51 left in overtime after Pastrnak was called for holding Dvorak. Seven seconds later off the faceoff, Charlie McAvoy joined Pastrnak in the box when he was whistled for high-sticking giving the Flyers a 5-on-3 advantage.

Martone scored his first NHL goal at the perfect time to give the Flyers a 2-1 win to help Philadelphia move into third place in the Metropolitan Division.

The Bruins’ road trip continues Tuesday when they take on the Carolina Hurricanes.
