According to police, the incident occurred at 11.31 pm on platform No. 6 as Train No. 19304, Bhopal–Indore Express, began departing. The train had picked up speed of nearly 40 km/h when the youth reportedly lost balance after colliding with a coach gate while attempting to board or alight.
The CCTV footage captures a terrifying 14-second ordeal. In the initial moments, the youth is seen spinning uncontrollably and being dragged along the platform edge before slipping into the narrow gap between the train and platform.
Police further said that swift action by Railway Protection Force (RPF) and station staff led to his rescue. He was immediately taken to Hamidia Hospital. The condition of victim is critical and is currently unfit to provide a statement.
According to GRP, mobile phone found in his pocket was completely damaged, making identification difficult. According to eyewitnesses, he is believed to be a resident of Bihar and about 26 years old.
Superintendent of Police (GRP) Rahul Lodha stated that preliminary investigation of the CCTV footage showed no evidence of foul play.
“Prima facie, the incident appears to be a result of extreme personal negligence while attempting to board or de-board a moving train. GRP has also contacted Bihar police for the identification of victim.” Lodha added.
