How have the initial waves of NFL free agency impacted mock drafts for the Jacksonville Jaguars?

Through the first week-plus of free agency, the Jaguars re-signed Dennis Gardeck and Montaric Brown, and made just one outside addition, signing running back Chris Rodriguez.

So how might these moves -- or the moves not made -- alter the Jaguars' approach to the NFL draft? Let's take a look at who the Jaguars are selecting in some recent mock drafts.

CBS Sports

  • 56: Zakee Wheatley, S, Penn State
  • 81: Derrick Moore, EDGE, Michigan
  • 88: Caleb Tiernan, OT, Northwestern
  • 100: Chris McClellan, IDL, Florida

Takeaways: The Jaguars have flexibility going into the draft, but taking a safety with their first selection doesn't feel like a need that has to be addressed right away, with Eric Murray, Antonio Johnson, Caleb Ransaw, and Rayuan Lane on the roster. Adding two defensive linemen in the top 100 feels like a must, and for a team that prioritized offensive line competition, a selection in the early going doesn't feel like a stretch.

Takeaways: Defensive tackle is arguably the biggest need that the Jaguars have. Depth and a more consistent push from the interior are needed. Orange is listed at 6-4 - 325 pounds.

Takeaways: With Lloyd no longer in the mix, the starting spot next to Foye Oluokun is up for grabs. Perhaps the Jaguars look internally to fill that role with either Ventrell Miller or Jack Kiser, but adding competition wouldn't be a bad idea either.

Takeaways: I can get on board with the first pick, given the huge need that the Jaguars have at defensive tackle. But the next three picks feel way off base. The top three spots on the running back depth chart and the top four spots on the wide receiver depth chart are solidified. Top 100 selections at either position are not needed, and I feel the same way about safety. These picks could have been better utilized.
