Three stars from Auburn baseball's sweep of Missouri
· Yahoo Sports
The No. 5 Auburn Tigers handled business over the weekend by sweeping Missouri to open SEC play with a 3-0 record in league play.
Auburn's first win of the weekend came in controversial fashion as the lights at Taylor Park mysteriously went dark shortly after Bub Terrell hit a go-ahead home run in the 8th inning, causing a delay lasting over an hour. However, Auburn reliever Garrett Brewer handled adversity well by striking out the side in the 8th inning and limiting Missouri to two hits and zero runs in Auburn's 2-0 win.

The remainder of Auburn's series at Missouri was played Saturday as a threat of storms on Sunday forced a doubleheader. Auburn needed extra magic to seal a win in game one as Chase Fralick singled home Cade Belyeu in the 10th inning, and Ryan Hetzler retired the side in order in the bottom frame to nail down a 4-3 win. In game two of the day, Auburn scored seven runs in the 7th inning to create separation and complete the sweep with a 9-2 win.
Several players made a giant impact in Auburn's weekend sweep of Missouri. Here are three stars from the SEC opening weekend win.
Ethin Bingaman
The freshman first baseman was vital to Auburn's weekend success by logging a hit in each of Auburn's three-game set at Missouri, with his loudest hit coming in game two of Saturday's doubleheader when he smashed a three-run home run as part of a seven-run 7th inning.
Bingaman is hitting .320 with three home runs and 20 RBI in 50 plate appearances.
Todd Clay
It has taken a few weeks for UAB transfer Todd Clay to warm up, but he showed at the plate last weekend that he is gaining confidence with every at-bat. Clay logged four hits in the series win over Missouri, including three in Auburn's 9-2 win on Saturday in game two of the doubleheader.
Since starting the season 0-16 at the plate, Clay has recorded a hit in three of his last four games and is 5-for-11 in that span.
Auburn's pitching
Ok, we are breaking the rules here, but it is difficult to find just one pitcher that stood out above the rest. As a whole, the Auburn pitching staff struck out 33 batters while walking just six, and allowed five earned runs on 17 hits.
Two members of Auburn's starting rotation, Jackson Sanders and Alex Petrovic, reached a season-high in innings pitched during their outings on Saturday. Ace Jake Marciano shut out Missouri on two hits before being pulled in Friday's opener following the lighting delay.
