It's an interesting matchup because Kentucky head coach, and Waynesboro native, Kenny Brooks got his head coaching start at James Madison. In between, Brooks was at Virginia Tech, which is the No. 9 seed in this bracket.

The Dukes reached the tournament with a Sun Belt Conference championship, beating Troy 69-52. JMU (26-8) reached at least 26 wins for the 17th time in program history.

Redshirt senior guard Peyton McDaniel leads the scoring for the Dukes with 18.9 points a game. The first team all-Sun Belt selection is also averaging 7.5 rebounds a game. Ashanti Barnes is averaging 14.9 points and 9.1 rebounds a game.

Both McDaniel and Barnes had double-doubles in the Sun Belt championship game, with McDaniel scoring 28 points and pullling down 10 rebounds while Barnes had 19 points and 12 rebounds.

Bree Robinson is the third Duke averaging in double figure points with 12.1 a game.

Kentucky (23-10) lost eight of its last 14 games. Clara Stack leads the team in scoring and rebounding with 17.1 points and 10 rebounds per game.

It's the 14th time JMU has made an appearance in the NCAA Women's Basketball Tournament, but the first since 2023.
