Crosspoint girls basketball drops regional game in overtime

Crosspoint Christian's girls basketball team is still headed to the Class 1B state tournament in Spokane next week, but the Wildcats' road to a potential trophy is now more difficult.
Facing No. 3 Waterville-Mansfield in regional play Saturday, Feb. 28 at Wenatchee High School, the No. 6 seed Wildcats saw their opponent tie the game at 62-62 with three seconds left in regulation and pull out a 73-67 overtime victory. Crosspoint (20-7) now faces an elimination game March 4 in Spokane against No. 11 Liberty Christian.Waterville-Mansfield receives a bye and opens play March 5 in the quarterfinal round.

Senior Anna Kuske, who was one of three Crosspoint players to foul out during the game, led the Wildcats with 27 points. Sister Katy, a sophomore, added 17 points.
Crosspoint trailed 14-13 after the first quarter and 27-25 at halftime, then faced a 42-33 deficit early in the third quarter, but closed with a 17-4 run to grab a 50-46 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
The Wildcats led 52-46 when Waterville-Mansfield responded with a 9-0 run to lead 55-52 with five minutes left. Crosspoint rallied to grab several leads in the late going, including 62-60 on an interior bucket by Katy Kuske with 1:15 left. On Waterville-Mansfield's final offensive possession with 16 seconds remaining, the Wildcats nearly stole the ball twice near the 3-point line, but the Shockers found a player unguarded in the paint for the tying score, forcing overtime.
Both teams traded leads in the four-minute extra period and Crollard tied the game at 67-67 with 1:15 left. It would be the final points for Crosspoint as Waterville-Mansfield finished off the game with six made free throws to account for the final score. For the game, referees called 22 fouls on Crosspoint and nine for Waterville-Mansfield.
