The acknowledgments for Maryland men’s basketball’s freshman Andre Mills keep rolling in — Mills was named the Big Ten Freshman of the Week Monday.

The 6-foot-4 guard from Boston has ascended over the last two games, both literally above the rim and figuratively. Mills scored 39 and 21 points against Northwestern and Washington, respectively. He also contributed a combined eight rebounds and seven assists in those two games.

For a team that has struggled for consistent scoring all season, Mills has truly been a revelation — he’s had double-digit points in six of his last seven games and at least 20 in three of his last four. His durability and stamina have been key for the Terps, too: of the last 160 minutes the Terps have played, Mills has been on the court for all but 15.

Maryland will need him to continue his form as it attempts to forge a late run. The Terps’ next game is at No. 12 Nebraska Wednesday.
