The Glenn varsity girls’ basketball team collected 5A/6A Piedmont Triad Conference wins over Mount Tabor and North Davidson on Friday and Monday and are gearing up for the Class 6A state playoffs.
On Feb. 11 the Ladycats took control immediately and went on to defeat Atkins 65-15.

The Ladycats almost let the lead slip away on Feb. 13 against visiting Mount Tabor but held on for a 42-41 victory.
The team has had a setback from the winter storms, Head Coach Melvin Heggie said.
“Ever since the snow storms we have tried to get back into the groove and get in rhythm. We had been playing really well. Not that we are not playing well right now, but everything was flowing before and everybody knew their role. We are just trying to get back in the groove and play in rhythm. We are just cleaning up the little stuff as we move forward so we can get to the playoffs and maximize who we are. Mount Tabor just did not quit, and we had so much happening on Friday. We had a pep rally, a students-versus-faculty game, and it was Senior Night. You want to eliminate as much distraction as you can. We played good in stretches, but they kept fighting. We should have put them away earlier. We missed 14 free throws and missed four in the final two minutes,” Heggie said.
The Ladycats’ Laneigh Scales had a huge game with 27 points, 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Cimora Rorie finished with 15 points, 12 assists and five steals.
The Ladycats took a 31-13 halftime lead against North Davidson on Monday and cruised to a 57-23 victory.
Glenn was scheduled to play away against North Forsyth on Wednesday night and will close out the season with a game against Mount Tabor on Friday at 6 p.m. Mount Tabor is in second place in the conference, but if Glenn wins its last two regular season games it could move into second place in the conference and help its seeding for the Class 6A state playoffs. Oak Grove is 20-0 and has already clinched the conference title.
