Lee gives credit to her former coach for introducing volleyball to her.
“Shoutout to Coach Bird,” Lee said. “He put me on. I thought basketball was what I really wanted to do, but he said maybe give volleyball a try.”
After switching sports, Lee spent just six years developing her game — a short timeline that led to interest from multiple colleges across the country.

“There have been nights where I didn’t go to sleep,” Lee said. “I was stressing. I’m calling my coach at 10 p.m., ‘Coach, I don’t know what to do.’”
Lee credits her family, coaches and teammates for helping her navigate the decision.
“Towards the end it got really stressful because you have to make a decision and I didn’t know where I wanted to be,” Lee said. “But Saint Mary truly felt like home at the end of the day.”
By signing her letter of intent, Lee’s name is now etched into Southwest history, something she says carries deep meaning.
“I’m really big about what I leave behind, a legacy bigger than myself,” Lee said. “Leaving a mark at Southwest means so much to me. I hope my little siblings, future volleyball players and even my kids one day can look up to it.”

“Taking over the KCAC Conference,” Lee said. “That’s what’s next on the list. But after that, it’s continuing to leave a legacy bigger than myself.”
She will head out to Kansas in August, hoping to continue dominating on and off the court.
