Saints Team Awards: QB1 or WR1, who is Offensive Player of the Year?

· Yahoo Sports

Tyler Shough throws a touchdown pass to Chris Olave, but who do you say is more responsible for it? It's tough to say in a vacuum, but that's basically what our staff writers had to do in the end-of-year team awards for the New Orleans Saints. When deciding the 2025 Offensive Player of the Year for the black and gold, it came down to Shough and Olave. And three of the four ballots came in for the receiver. Here's how everyone made their cases:

Tyler Shough

Chris Olave had a magnificent season with 100 receptions and 1,163 yards, but my choice is Shough because of what he meant to the offense. Shough took the unit to a different level once he became starter in Week 9, and did so with mostly practice squad players at wide receiver and running back. In his nine starts, Shough averaged 250 passing yards with a 69% completion percentage and accounted for 13 scores. His offense showed a vast improvement in third down efficiency while averaging an improvement of more than six points and 55 more total yards per outing. -- Bob Rose

Chris Olave

No player is more deserving of this award than Chris Olave. After a season derailed by concussions, one that even led him to contemplate retirement — Olave delivered a remarkable comeback. He stayed healthy all year and elevated his game, setting career highs across every major statistical category. -- Luke Loffredo

The season may have started off uncertain at quarterback (and could be described as having a lot of uncertainty overall), but Olave was the team's most reliable and productive player offensively. Expect him to continue that in 2026 after finishing out the season with over 1,000 receiving yards. -- Crissy Froyd

There was not a ton of options to choose from on the offensive side of the ball that will not end up being a double selection with another award, so let's just go with the obvious answer and put Chris Olave up there. After many injuries slowed him down in the past, he came back and put together an outstanding season. -- Jeremy Trottier
